Little Granite Mountain, called Granite Mountain on the USGS topographic map, was renamed by climbers in deference to the more famous Granite Mountain outside Prescott. The isolated 3,526-foot-high mountain, protected in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, rises above a sloped desert plain north of the McDowell Mountains. Numerous small granite crags and boulders scatter across the mountain, offering rock climbers a quiet and remote getaway close to the Phoenix megalopolis. The mountain’s pristine Sonoran desert ecosystem, with towering saguaro cacti and other typical desert plants, offers an unusual climbing experience for visiting climbers. This guide includes The Loaf and Bobcat Boulder, Pasta Wall, Lost Bandanna Wall, and The Cone climbs.
