The Palatka–St.Augustine State Trail takes you through serene, easily meandered wooded areas filled with historical and cultural features before passing through a fast-paced area with modern-day amenities as it parallels FL 207, eventually returning to woods for its last couple of miles. Interpretive signage along the trail tells the history of Armstrong and the railroad that once carried fresh produce and other goods to and from St. Augustine more than 130 years ago. Parking is scarce, so you'll want to begin your journey at an informal parking lot located where the trail and FL 207 split, just south of Vermont Heights. You won't want to miss the northern end of the trail, which lies 2 miles north of this starting point. The trail's railroad history is readily apparent as the paved trail ends, abruptly giving way to railroad ties that make for a unique experience.
