One of the Sunshine State’s best-kept trail secrets, the Nature Coast State Trail connects five small rural towns—Cross City, Old Town, Fanning Springs, Trenton, and Chiefland—along a T-shaped, 32-mile corridor. The Atlantic Coast Railroad once traversed this pathway carrying timber, crops, and passengers throughout the Suwannee River Valley. Today, visitors can connect to its railroad history by exploring three historic depots and an old railroad trestle. The well-maintained, flat trail (open daily, 8 a.m.-sunset) boasts a diversity of agricultural scenery and wildlife, as well as views of the Suwannee River, historical landmarks, parks, springs, and trailside amenities.
