Historic Jungle Trail winds nearly 8 miles through the hammock and mangrove habitats of Florida’s barrier islands north of Vero Beach. The trail—really a road—was built in the 1920s to support the citrus industry and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The trail accommodates vehicle traffic but is used primarily by cyclists, walkers, and joggers. The route is sandy (some places can get soft or are prone to flooding), but a majority of the surface is hard packed and easygoing for wide-tire bicycles.
