Crater Lake is a spectacular jewel set in the volcanic caldera (cone) of Mount Mazama in south-central Oregon. The lake water is a deep blue, changing shades as the sun changes its angle in the sky. This ride is extremely exhilarating and challenging. Although only 33 miles in length, the road encircling the rim is a series of steep climbs and descents, sweeping up and down more than 800 feet.
The views are equally outstanding, from Wizard Island to the numerous fascinating geologic formations, including cinder cones and lava flows of various sizes and colors. Terrain: there is a little flat surface on the Rim Drive. Inclines average 5%. Roads are relatively narrow but generally in good repair.
