This park is an oasis of sorts—the only state park close to Philadelphia that offers camping. At more than 7,700 acres, it’s also the largest contiguous block of forest between New York City and Washington, DC. That means it gets some heavy usage. But it’s a nice place to visit and stay, with two lakes to fish and some cool hiking trails. The 68-acre Hopewell Lake is home to warmwater species like bass, panfish, and pickerel; 22-acre Scotts Run Lake is a coldwater fishery stocked with trout. There are 35 miles of trails. About 6,000 acres of the park are open to hunting, which also draws people, given the otherwise congested nature of this part of the state. Deer, turkeys, and small game are common species.
