This more than 2,300-acre expanse is billed as a “full-service” park in that if there’s anything you can think of to do on a camping trip, you can probably do it here. There’s boating, hiking, hunting, fishing, and more. What’s more, you can pick your activity and often get some guidance in doing it. There’s some unique wildlife here too. Giant swallowtail butterflies, the largest butterfly found in North America, are frequent visitors here during the warmer months. Hiking some of the park’s 18 miles of trails will often give you a glimpse of these creatures. Roughly 1,800 acres of parkland are open to hunting, but only bows are legal until November 1, at which time shotguns and muzzle-loaders are also allowed.
