As is the case at Poe Valley, the biggest draw here is the trout fishing on Penns Creek. This classic riffle and pool water is probably the best, and best-loved, trout stream in a state where trout are more popular among anglers than any other species. Late May or early June—when the legendary green drake hatch comes off—is the best time to be on the water. Hikers looking for the unusual or special will find something for themselves as well. The Mid State Trail passes through here, going through the 250-foot-long Paddy Mountain Railroad Tunnel along the way.
