A number of geological wonders make this park worth exploring. There’s the Ice Mine, a natural refrigerator that for years was a source of ice year-round. That’s not so true now, but you can still step down into the mine and feel a dramatic change in temperature. Whenever you’re out on the trails or elsewhere, be on the lookout for an oddity particular to this park: piebald deer. They are white- tailed deer that, rather than being brown with white bellies, are splotched with white all over. They can turn up anywhere, but this park seems to have more than its share.
