Originally designed to serve as a camp for Civilian Conservation Corps workers, this area later became a pine tree plantation before ultimately becoming a park. It’s a tiny bit of civilization within a wilderness. Entirely surrounded by Sproul State Forest, the state’s largest, it has a large swimming pool and a children’s play area and is host to environmental education programs twice a month in summer. If you like your attractions more natural, the park offers some excellent fishing for trout, both stocked and wild. And while there are no hiking trails within the tiny park itself, it is the western trailhead for the 90-mile Donut Hole Trail.
