Parts of the campground have been designated as a pet-walking area. This is a great park for doing some exploring. It’s got 16 miles of trails, many of them winding into and through the adjacent Moshannon State Forest, so you can see black bears, deer, rattlesnakes, bobcats, coyotes, and all kinds of other wildlife. It’s also the western trailhead for the 73-mile Quehanna Trail System. There’s some pleasant fishing and boating here as well. What’s really special though is that Parker Dam State Park is only a 50-minute drive from the heart of Pennsylvania’s elk range; no other park or campground is closer. The nearby Elk Country Visitor Center has interactive exhibits and movies, wildlife viewing stations, hiking trails, and more, all centered on a conservation theme.
