This terrific 80-some mile loop features just about everything you’d want in a ride: a couple challenging climbs; some fast sweeping downhills; a pastoral setting of farms, fields, forests, and wide-open river valleys; and rural, low-traffic roads.
As a bonus, the ride swings past the Columbia River, here in its dammed Lake Roosevelt form (named for Franklin D.). A few small towns along the way—Hunters, Cedonia, Chewelah, and the start-finish town of Springdale—add a little spice and charm as well as providing places to refuel.
