Activity Type: Sea Kayaking
Nearby City: Edgartown
Distance: 13 nautical miles
Tidal Information: Mean tidal range at Edgartown is 2.13 feet. While it is prudent to try to paddle with the tides, prioritize arriving at the more volatile areas—the breach and Wasque Point—when currents are slower. Currents in the breach could be difficult to paddle against when they’re at their fastest. Launching a little before low tide could provide some current assist on your way out the breach, and for a chance at less volatile conditions there and around Wasque Point.
Hazards/Cautions: Strong currents at the Norton Point/Wasque breach interacting with swells can create lively and dangerous conditions. Open ocean conditions for most of the route.
Season: Year-round
Local Maps: NOAA chart #13233; Maptech #85; Waterproof Chart #10
