Hazards/Cautions: Portland Harbor is extremely busy with near-constant ferry and water taxi traffic, along with recreational and fishing boats and very active Coast Guard vessels; tankers and container ships regularly come and go. The south sides of Long and Peaks islands are exposed to open ocean and whatever conditions it may bring. Tidal currents between the islands can accelerate and create lively conditions when opposing swell and wind.
