Activity Type: Sea Kayaking
Nearby City: Lincolnville
Distance: 10-20 nautical miles
Tidal Information: 9.78-foot mean tidal range in Rockland. Floods north, ebbs south.
Hazards/Cautions: Western Penobscot Bay has plenty of boat traffic, including the ferry between Lincolnville and Grindle Point. Keep an eye out for big ships, which move more quickly than they first appear. The current increases as it moves around Islesboro. The ebb tide frequently opposes the prevailing southwest wind and waves, creating rough conditions, sometimes soon after calm conditions. Be attentive.
