This hike on national forest land is as superb as it is short. It is conveniently accessed from a day-use area off CA 1. The trail threads a scenic bluff with the bonus of a 0.25-mile-long sandy beach. This hike is on a sublime stretch o ff CA 1 south of Big Sur. Most of the beaches on the coast are in state parks that seldom welcome dogs. Luckily, Sand Dollar Beach is on dog-friendly national forest land. As a bonus, Plaskett Creek campground is just steps away on the southeast side of CA 1.
