A rugged gorge, three waterfalls, and the confluence of two creeks provide plenty of natural scenery to admire and explore. Some bodies of water came into being when glaciers scooped great bowls into the earth and filled them with ice melt. Others were fingers of glacial sculpture, crevasses that became rivers at the end of the ice age. In the case of Plotter Kill, melting ice came at the landscape in a great torrent of rushing water, the sheer force of which sliced a gorge and fueled the “kill,” or creek, that we see here today. The result is a marvelous hike to three waterfalls—one 60 feet high, the others somewhat smaller—through lush, rolling terrain positively loaded with wildflowers, ferns, fascinating fungi, and tall trees.
