Once a power source, this natural falls provides a contemplative stopping place between suburban and rural communities. For a waterfall named after its industrial purpose, Paper Mill Falls does not have the backstory hikers might expect to find here. Two mills once stood nearby, and we can assume that one of them produced wood pulp for paper, but other than the millstones used here to direct visitors to the bridge over the falls, there’s no evidence of the site’s role in production or manufacturing. Suffice it to say that this little town park remains a pretty spot at which to linger for a short time. Conesus Creek dumps itself over a zigzag ledge and shatters into a foamy mass as it hits the rocks 10 feet below. The total tumble, roughly 15 feet, can be viewed from the pedestrian bridge that crosses the creek above the falls, or from the opposite side once you’ve crossed.
