This surprisingly natural-looking man-made falls is from the heyday of the Erie Canal. For a waterfall constructed at least 150 years ago, Holley Canal Falls presents a remarkably attractive and appealing picture--and the leadership in Holley had the good sense to build Canal Park around this centerpiece, making it a favorite place for people to gather for picnics, parties, and even some fishing in East Sandy Creek at the base of the falls. From November 15 through April 15, this falls stops flowing because the state drains the canal for the winter. Fall may be the best time to visit, when the deciduous trees surrounding the falls turn bright jewel tones and cover the hillside in brilliant color.
