Manhattan is full of glamorous and wonderful sights, but few neighborhoods can boast as many beautiful buildings mixed with historical and natural treasures as does Morningside Heights. It’s home to the extraordinarily handsome campus of Columbia University, part of the venerated Ivy League and founded in 1754 as King’s College. Barnard College— Columbia’s undergraduate women’s division, and my alma mater—is part of the Seven Sisters association of highly competitive all-female colleges. Morningside Heights is also home to two of Manhattan’s most significant churches: Riverside Church and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. There are also a number of smaller gems not to be overlooked here, as well as the lovely Riverside Park. This area saw action during the American Revolution and over the years has continued to play host to intellectual and spiritual events of many types.
