Fans of Art Deco architecture and decorative arts love midtown Manhattan because it has so many stellar specimens. In particular, the Rockefeller Center complex is eye candy for lovers of this style. But the swath of Manhattan covered in this walk has other stirring sights of artistic, spiritual, and cultural importance. St. Patrick’s Cathedral touches the hearts of Roman Catholics and others. MoMA (the Museum of Modern Art) houses an unparalleled art and design collec- tion. The Sony Building has fascinating science, technology, and media exhibitions that will thrill children and adults alike. And for shopping—or just dreaming about it—head over to Tiffany’s, among other swank stores, or thrill to the Diamond District, centered on 47th Street. (Be aware that traffic, both pedestrian and vehicular, can be quite heavy in the area this walk covers.)
