No other street in Manhattan or New York City, and few other streets in the world, are as commanding or as famous as 42nd Street, from river to river. It is the very core of Manhattan: a mix of commerce, media, transportation, entertainment, and education. It’s always “on.” Every subway line that runs through Midtown has a stop here. It has nick-names, such as “Forty-Deuce” or just “The Deuce.” A classic movie musical is named for it, the title song of which urges, “Come and meet those dancing feet/On the avenue I’m taking you to/42nd Street.”
