Although popular by Russian Wilderness standards, scenic Waterdog and Russian lakes should provide the wilderness traveler with plenty of picturesque scenery without having to rub elbows with a high number of fellow recreational enthusiasts. While the relatively short distance of 4.5 miles and the general lack of excellent campsites make this trip better suited for dayhikers, weekend backpackers who aren’t too particular will find the area quite appealing as well.
