While dams interrupt the Chattahoochee River for much of its 430 miles, the river runs freely for 5 miles through Chattahoochee Bend State Park. This unbroken ecosystem supports an impressive array of flora and fauna, including 35 miles of wetlands, unusual inland tidal pools, and undisturbed woods that provide nesting habitat for great blue herons and bald eagles. While walking the River Bend Trail, you might see birds soaring down the Chattahoochee, and a tall riverside observation platform makes a great place to sit in shade and watch for wildlife. For the most part, this trail runs flat alongside the river, but short climbs into hardwoods add nice variety to this pleasant walk.
