Great Head epitomizes what most Acadia fans love about this park; here, the mountains reach out to meet the ocean. The cliffs that rise over the rocky shoreline provide a unique look at some of the best scenery Acadia has to offer. Kids will delight in the distant rumbling of Thunder Hole and the short-range views of the nearby beach (Acadia’s only sandy beach and one of the few sandy beaches on this section of the Maine coast). This relatively easy and tremendously rewarding walk will appeal to kids of all ages and ability levels. Summer visitors can enjoy a post-hike swim with lifeguard supervision at Sand Beach.
