Jug End State Reservation is a long ridgeline hike with impressive views of the mountains and forests of western Massachusetts. There’s a remote feel to the trailhead for Jug End State Reservation and Mount Bushnell. You follow a dirt road down to a small parking area on the right, where there’s probably room for four or five cars. The Appalachian Trail (A.T.) climbs sharply up from the dirt road into a dense forest. This first section is a brisk climb—a good, quick, intense warm-up.
