Little Fishing Creek’s watershed begins between Warrenton and Littleton, about 10 miles south of the Virginia border. Its major tributaries are Reedy Creek and Bear Swamp. Little Fishing Creek flows south through Medoc Mountain State Park. Rather than a real mountain, it is eroded granite from an ancient mountain range. It has steep slopes of over 160 feet, unusually rugged for this area. The park is near the Fall Line, an area where the hard rocks of the Piedmont foothills give way to the softer rocks and sediments of the Coastal Plain. Downstream of the park, Little Fishing Creek flows into Fishing Creek. This Little Fishing Creek should not be confused with a smaller stream of the same name that is sometimes paddled. The other Little Fishing Creek begins below Oxford and flows south into the Tar River. This eTrail contains 1 section of Little Fishing Creek from Medoc State Park Road (Halifax Co. 1322) access to Medoc Mountain Road (Halifax Co. 1002) access.

My boys and I really enjoyed this trail. The park has built canoe launches at each end of the park, so it's easy in/out. We did this when the water was fairly high (I don't recall how high) and swift. A few nice flows, nothing too hairy though, which is good for us beginners. A nice quick outing. This outing was the first time that we ever capsized. But we made a tactical error. A short section of rapids carried us towards the left bank where there were overhanging branches. When all 3 of us leaned to the right, to avoid getting poked by branches, we all went for a swim! This is where I lost my Garmin eTrex Vista GPS. If anybody happens to find it... Anyway, we should have started into the rapids on the right side and we should have paddled faster through it to avoid getting carried into the branches. Next time we'll know and we'll rate it 5 stars!
