Gardner creek was a beautiful kayak experience. we kayaked up to beaverlodge platform and spent the night. It was november and cold so we had no problems with bugs. the platforms are in the low swamp area which is pretty unique. we saw lots of birds, jumping fish, turtles and an otter. It takes about three hours to kayak to the site and you definately don't want to do it in the dark. the people at Robersons marina were nice and helpful, but not always around so make sure you call them in advance.
Update: A new platform, Beaver Tail, is next to Barred Owl Roost, allowing larger groups to camp together.
