Less popular than the South Fork, Shenandoah’s North Fork is traditionally home to plenty of nice fish. It starts in Rockingham County and snakes its way through the Shenandoah Valley until it meets up with its better-known sister, the South Fork of the Shenandoah, in Front Royal. In between lies over 100 miles of good smallmouth bass water—as well as plenty of solitude, since you’ll generally find less fishing pressure on this river. Types of Fish: By and large, Shenandoah anglers are chasing smallies. The North Fork of the Shenandoah, however, also has a good population of sunfish, carp, and rock bass. This fly-fishing chapter describes the "where, when, and how" for fishing in this area. It includes a full-page map and information on the known hatches, suggested equipment to use, the best flies to use, season, limits, nearby accommodations, and camping.
