The old mining town of Santa Rosalia looks exactly as you would expect — dust and dirt everywhere and surrounded by huge slag heaps — but with some surprises. The metal catholic church was designed by Alexandre Eiffel, of Eiffel Tower fame. It was assembled in Paris, taken apart, shipped by boat to Santa Rosalia, then reassembled. The French company that started the mining company left other Parisian marks.
The bakery serves a Mexican version of the French roll “bolillos” and the French influenced wooden architecture is as if you are in some type of strange New Orleans replica built by the Mexicans.
