This urban hike beneath the glistening skyscrapers of the Big D combines the walking routes suggested by the city’s visitor center into a loop of some of the best points in the downtown jungle. Though you won’t see traditional nature sights along the hike, you will be impressed as you trek past urbanized versions, including a herd of cattle stampeding over a brook, a multilevel waterfall, a sculpture garden, and an infamous grassy knoll.
The low rumble of cars driving by on the nearby roadway
is only slightly distracting, and as you walk farther along the path, the cheery chirping of birds flitting through the trees will turn your attention away from the sounds of urban life. The woods brush the trail, blessing it with partial shade for most of the hike. They also provide an ideal haven for vines, which climb the trunks and hang loosely from the branches of some of the trees.
