The first part of the self-guided Goose Pond Trail, from the nature center to Goose Pond, is an “all person accessible” trail, designed to accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. Beyond Goose Pond the route follows a well-trodden path out to a salt marsh. At the marsh most folks leave the selfguided trail and walk via a path and boardwalks to a beach on Wellfleet Harbor. Your route stays on the Goose Pond Trail as it skirts the marsh and then loops back through open and then wooded country to Goose Pond and back to the nature center. The variety of native plants and the chance to see and hear many of the Cape’s common (and not-socommon) birds make this walk a must-do. Parts of the route may flood during very high tides.

The Goose Pond Trail is a mix of boardwalk, sand and pine needles. The trail winds through forest, out into open marsh land and back into forest. There is a side trail that has a boardwalk over the marsh land onto a beach area of the Wellfleet Bay. A lot of photographic opportunities. There is a guide book you can purchase or 'rent' to explain the different birds and flora you might encounter. The trial is easy with a mix of sun and shade. Stay on the trail-it is well marked. There is private property inside the trail-please respect their privacy. It does seem to be a popular trail. Was a very enjoyabl hike.
