The route combines a sunny ramble on a dirt road with a shady stroll on a paved bike trail. A wide variety of trees and shrubs will keep botanical enthusiasts busy, and birders should bring binoculars. Because of the state park’s popularity and the route’s exposure to sun, this walk is best done during the off-season. Note: A fire in the summer of 2005 destroyed the former entrance station; plans to rebuild are uncertain. There is currently a staffed information booth (seasonal) with brochures and maps located on the north side of the parking area immediately to your right as you first enter the park.
