Alot of variety and scenery on this hike. Be careful with your dog, as the huge boulders are difficult for them to navigate unless you can pick them up! You don't see too many people near the middle of the trail, but it's quite popular within a mile or two of the trailheads
I went the counter clockwise direction, the same as the trail guide. It was a good decision. The downhill at the end was more drawn out and easier on my knees. The trail I drew from the Bing map didn't correspond to the actual route. However, I uploaded the actual route logged from the GPS. Important to note that in the first third of the trail when you hike the creek bed there's a trail sign that can throw you off. I put a waypoint for the reservoir. The incorrect sign is about a mile before that.
The Ford canyon and Mesquite together suprise of the best scenery the White Tanks has to offer. Watch the water carved shear rock water falls come into view hicking up Ford Canyon. Admire the colorfull Mesquite Canyon full of natural rock sculptures and steep moutain sides full of mesquite. All in all this is the site to see the trails to travel at the White Tanks. The beauty is unimaginable the best the desert has to offer. Not to difficult some actual climbing might be involved but lots of fun. You find yourself walking through a long wash so it's a bit sandy enjoy.
