The H-3 Loop in Thunderbird Park offers a great beginner’s hike. This scenic trail takes visitors up the northernmost Hedgpeth Hill and provides ample open views of the city and surrounding mountains. During certain springs, golden brittlebush blossoms completely cover the Hedgpeth Hills.

This is one of my favorite hikes. There is no water at the trailhead, though there are restrooms. The first 45 minutes of the hike is fairly steep...fantastic views.......then it sort of levels off and the rest of the hike to the thumb is great. Once you get up to the base of the thumb, you might be treated with a few rope climbers scaling to the top. If not, just sit back and take in the views. Right next to the trailhead is the trail to Marcus landslide.
