Enjoy a renewed urban oasis, 137 acres in Baltimore’s oldest park, created in 1827. Often referred to as “Baltimore’s Backyard,” Patterson Park ran into some hard times during the 1980s and early 1990s and became synonymous with drug activity. Recent neighborhood revitalizations and booms in the housing markets of nearby Highlandtown and Canton, however, have renewed interest in the park as a place of recreation, and a true urban oasis has been created. The “Friends of Patterson Park” gets the primary credit for the park’s renaissance. You’ll pass the organization’s white brick headquarters as you head left from the trailhead.
