Saint Mary’s Waterfall is in Saint Mary’s Wilderness, which is part of George Washington National Forest. The wilderness tract covers more than 10,000 acres, making it one of the largest wilderness areas in Virginia. The Virginia Wilderness Bill of 1984 closed all roads in Saint Mary’s Wilderness to vehicles and commercial activity. Saint Mary’s continues to allow only foot traffic within its boundaries.
