This region doesn’t have very many waterfalls, which seems a little unusual since most of it is mountainous. But what it lacks in quantity, it more than makes up for in quality. If it had no other falls than Cascades, it would rank high on the list of Virginia waterfall destinations. There are a few other waterfalls that are definitely worth visiting as well, and a host of other scenic locations, not to mention the historic towns of Blacksburg and Lexington and a slew of interesting smaller communities. This eTrail covers 5 waterfalls in this region including Roaring Run Falls, Cascades, Upper Cascades, Waterfall at Falls Ridge, and Falls of Dismal.

I love this hike! So far I have not done the lower trail I have only done the 4 mile loop up to the falls. I love the fact that you can hear the water running the whole trail. Its also great to swim in...

Have done this little hike many times throughout 2008. The trials to the falls are worth the time itself, absolutely beautiful, but the falls at the end are a destination in itself. Beautiful with a great swimming hole to boot. Well established trail, family friendly, and quick.

The hike from the lot to the falls and back is closer to 4 miles. I would take the lower route that hugs the river both ways, it is far more beautiful. Again, this trail must be unbelievable when the rhodos are out...
