Actually, there’s more than Deals Gap on this ride, but it is definitely the highlight. The 318 twists in the 11- mile section of road that pierces into Tennessee say it all. This piece of civil engineering is also known simply as “The Dragon.” Basically, it’s one giant coaster. The rest of the ride is spectacular, too. Cruising along river edges, around lakes, through gorges and small mountain towns, this route offers the best of the road for every type of rider. Points of interest: Nantahala Gorge overlook, a swinging pedestrian bridge over the Cheoah River, Tapoco Lodge, the Crossroads of Time Motel and Motorcycle Campground in Deals Gap, the “Dragon” itself, Fontana Village, and the attractions of the Nantahala Gorge.

It was a great ride, worth the trip out there. Lot's of speedy bikers on their crotch rockets made it annoying for a first-time that had to mind the speed limit.
