This hike starts at an attractive and historic national forest recreation area, then enters the Unaka Mountain Wilderness. Here, hikers penetrate a deep, lush defile where aptly named Rock Creek cuts a mountain gorge. Trace a narrow path under rock bluffs interspersed in the wilderness. Criss-cross Rock Creek several times without benefit of a bridge. Your efforts are rewarded on reaching three waterfalls. The uppermost cataract, Rock Creek Falls, crashes 50 feet from on high into a high-walled curved stone amphitheater.
