This solitude-filled hike starts at the crest of the North Carolina-Tennessee state line, then works out to the rim of the 1,000-foot-deep Nolichucky River Gorge, where hikers are rewarded with a magnificent panorama of this whitewater rafting destination and the ridges forming the foreboding defile. Cruise along the edge of the rim, passing occasional wildlife clearings then ascend back to the state line trailhead. The hiking is easy on the feet, being a doubletrack path its entire distance.
