The Colonial National Historical Park incorporates two of America’s most historic sites, Jamestown and Yorktown. Located on the Virginia peninsula between the York and James rivers, each site has its own story to tell. They are connecting stories, for the events that took place at Jamestown led inevitably to those at Yorktown. The Colonial Parkway, 23 miles of scenic roadway that links the two sites, makes it easy to follow the sequence of events from the nation’s Colonial beginnings at Jamestown to their conclusion with the surrender of General Cornwallis at the Battle of Yorktown. The Colonial Parkway is, in itself, well worth a visit. It’s a modern route that provides access to many other historic spots in this section of Virginia’s Tidewater, while showing off the area’s spectacular natural beauty. This eTrail provides detailed information on sights, events, entertainment, shopping, dining, accommodations, and transportation in this area of Virginia.
