In Stockbridge you may recognize the wide main street lined with classic New England homes—a setting Norman Rockwell used often in his paintings. Another Rockwell favorite was the Red Lion Inn. This large white building in the center of town looks like a New England inn should. You can wander around inside (there’s a nice gift shop), then have a meal in the Widow Bingham’s Tavern—ablaze with impatiens during the summer. After your visit to Stockbridge you'll venture on to two Berkshire ski areas, Ski Butternut and Catamount.
The itinerary then takes you to two small towns in this scenic corner of Massachusetts, Mount Washington and Ashley Falls. This eTrail contains everything you need to getaway for a quick daytrip or a long weekend jaunt. A route map is included and as are suggestions for the best things to do, places to eat, and places to stay.
