Easy trails with self-guided features offer unusual scenery and an interesting hour-long hike. Accessible to nearly everyone, these trails are hidden treasures. Especially enjoyed the Wupatki pueblo site.
This Park is a large driving loop. We went to the Northern end first and worked our way back south. The Ruins were really cool, if you like archeological ruins, there are two sets here, with the walks to each being fairly easy. The second set as you come south, is fully restored, and gives you a try look at the ancient native settlement. The volcano crater itself is quite desolate, and we just drove by it an viewed it from the car. Also, the views of the painted desert as you drive along the park road are truly wonderful. Make sure you get gas before you leave Flagstaff, because the park is truly out in the middle of the desert, no stores around. We enjoyed this day trip, hope you do as well.
