No chocolate fanatic can possibly skip a visit to Burlington, home of Nestle Chocolate Company, USA. A day trip here is especially fun in the middle of May, when the annual Chocolate Festival revs up. Believe it or not, you'll find more chocolate than you can eat. And this amount of chocolate is also amazing to see. Among the displays are a 1,600-pound chocolate Nestle Crunch Bar, a 2,756-pound chocolate chip, or a half-ton chocolate dinosaur. If you think chocolate then the festival is for you. But you'll also have to somehow work off the poundage earned by the choco-munching.
Burlington is an action place, with plenty of opportunities to swim, boat, fish, hike, or cycle. And, if you prefer to stay on shore, there are plenty of picnic areas and also a bike trail that begins in Burlington's Riverside Park and follows the Fox River heading north, on a railroad bed. This eTrail from the DayTrips series describes many fascinating, exciting, (and many free of charge) things to do, most within a two-hour drive of Milwaukee. Each Day Trip includes destination highlights, places to visit along the way, choice restaurants and lodging, and shopping.
