The modern parkway, part of the National Scenic Byways Program, allows travelers to enjoy a relaxed drive (the speed limit is 50 miles per hour) through Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee, while absorbing both important American history and a beautiful, natural landscape. All but 20 miles of the 450-mile route between Natchez and Nashville is official parkway, and you can pick it up just outside Tupelo. In addition to visiting the historical sites and displays, travelers can stop at fifteen interpretive locations, as well as many granite mileposts describing points of interest and park services. This eTrail from the DayTrips series describes many fascinating, exciting, (and many free of charge) things to do, most within a two-hour drive of Memphis. Each Day Trip includes, destination highlights, places to visit along the way, choice restaurants and lodging, and shopping.
