At just under 8 miles long, and averaging 600 feet wide, the Cape Cod Canal, which was planned to accommodate vessels drafting less than 30 feet, offers more productive striper spots for its area than any other location on the Striper Coast. Indeed, the four hot spots listed here are intended only to represent dozens more unlisted Canal locations, because I dare not consume too many pages of this work with the Canal alone.
Today, a high percentage— though certainly not all—of Canal anglers are content to wait beside a chunk-baited rod. Those who do this, and I have no problem with it, will argue that chunking is what works best. I submit, however, that this is a case of self-fulfilling prophecy. If there is a failing to this kind of baitfishing, it is that it fails to cover water and it lacks mobility. This eTrail contains 4 different surfcasting locations for striped bass including Herring Run, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Mud Flats, and East End.
