Northern Minnesota has much to interest outdoor-oriented families. The Gunflint Trail is a 64-mile paved road in northern Minnesota near the Canadian border, which provides access to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW), one of the largest wilderness areas in the United States. In summer in the BWCAW and in Voyageurs National Park, families find watery adventures and classic north-country scenery. This is a back-to-basics adventure of lazy days spent paddling along chains of lakes, past islands dotted with pine trees and rimmed with pebbly shores, and of simple nights camping or staying at shoreside lodges. In winter the region is transformed into a cross-country ski mecca.

Ah the historic Gunflint Trail. You cannot go wrong by taking the family on this trip. You will find lots of places to stop for a hike or a picnic. There are great views, and it is not far from resorts and camping areas. I strongly recommend this trip!
