Highway 101 levels off on a broad prairie between the Bogachiel and Calawah Rivers and slows through the one-stop-light town of Forks. Despite its diminutive size, Forks is the economic hub of the western Olympic Peninsula. Hiking trails of every stripe stretch through lowland meadows and into the high country. Some meander to wilderness lakes, others to spectacular waterfalls. Many lead to broad beaches, rocky shores, coastal cliffs, and rugged headlands. Some of the attractions listed here might seem distant or far-flung, but this is big country, with Forks the only community of any appreciable size. For the traveler, it can be a convenient headquarters for day trips into the nearby Hoh Rain Forest and the coastal stretches of Olympic National Park. This eTrail includes information on lodging, campgrounds, RV parks, restaurants, entertainment, shopping, and outdoor activities near this coastal city.
