Like Trail #14, this trail crosses the Continental Divide above 12,000 feet. The view of Tomichi Pass across the valley as you come down the south side of Hancock Pass is breathtaking. Once you see it, you’ll immediately be inspired to go up Tomichi, Trail #19.

Visited St. Elmo ghost town for tailgate lunch and walked around a little. Popular spot because trailhead for Tin Cup Pass is there. Went back to the road to Hancock Pass. Lots of busses for some school outing on the road up. Made it up to Hancock Pass with stock 4x4 pickup although it took careful wheel placement and patience. Alpine Tunnel road was closed due to rock slide. We could see the rock wall palisades of the road to the tunnel from the road below. Fun trail and beautiful vistas. Wildflowers were awesome.
